This workshop breaks down complex filmmaking techniques into accessible tools for capturing and editing video.  After building upon each step, from planning to shooting to editing, you’ll have the skills needed to serve any of your video needs. With the content you’ve captured through in-class exercises, you will finish the course having created your very own short film.

 

  • Differences between capturing motion vs. still photography
  • Filmmaking theory, formats, frame rates and resolution
  • Stabilisation and motion techniques: pan, tilt, zoom
  • Recording audio, isolating sound and using microphones
  • Filming with natural and artificial lighting
  • Editing video and audio files
  • Cohesive storytelling

who should attend

Suitable for those who have completed our Photography Level 1 workshop.

 

You should have a thorough understanding of ISO, aperture, shutter speed, and how all of these relate to each other to achieve a correct exposure. If you are not familiar with these terms or currently shoot in Auto or P mode, we recommend enrolling for our Photography Level 1 workshop prior to attending our Introduction to Video workshop.

 

Please note that you should also have basic Mac or PC skills, including launching an application, creating, naming, and saving documents, and navigating folders to locate a specific file.

Suitable for those who have completed our Photography Level 1 workshop.

What to bring
  • DSLR or mirrorless camera with fully-charged battery (point-and-shoot cameras and smartphones are not suitable)
  • Extra camera batteries
  • Headphones
  • Empty memory card for your camera (SD cards should be class 6 or higher & CF cards should be 400x or faster)
  • Laptop with a fully charged battery
  • Adobe Premiere Pro (pre-downloaded & fully functioning on your laptop)
  • Laptop charger
  • Laptop mouse (optional)
  • Tripod (optional)
  • On-camera microphone (optional)
  • Notebook & pen

Note: Adobe Premiere Pro is now part of Adobe’s Creative Cloud plan. You can sign up here for the Creative Cloud, or you can utilize Adobe’s free 7-day trial, which can be downloaded here. You must install Adobe Premier on your laptop and check that it is working correctly prior to attending the workshop.

 

Super Important: You must check that your laptop meets the minimum system requirements before booking this workshop. You can check the requirements via the Adobe website here.

Need a camera?
If you do not yet own a DSLR/Mirrorless camera, we are happy to lend you one of our  loan cameras to use during your workshop, free of charge! All you need to bring is your own SD card. To request to borrow a loan camera for your workshop, email us at least 36 hours in advance of your workshop with the subject line "Help! I Need a Camera!”; please include your workshop dates and order confirmation number in the email. Please note that we have a limited number of loan cameras available, and the program works on a first come, first served basis.

Cancellation Policy
  • If you cancel your workshop a minimum of 7 days in advance of your workshop, you will be issued a 90% refund or may be rescheduled to another date(s).
  • If you cancel your workshop a minimum of 3 days (72 hours) in advance of your workshop, no refund will be issued, but you may request to be rescheduled to another workshop date(s).
  • If you cancel your workshop less than 3 days (72 hours) in advance of your workshop, no refund and no reschedule is possible. 

TERMS & CONDITIONS

  • Workshops can be rescheduled within 3 months of the originally booked workshop date(s).
  • Bookings can only be transferred ONCE, including in the event of a workshop relocation. If you transfer your workshop booking and later wish to cancel it, we will not be able to refund or reschedule you under any circumstances.
  • GPP reserves the right to change the location of any workshop to another location within the same city and/or emirate as deemed necessary in accordance with management discretion.
  • You must be 16 or older to attend this workshop. If you are younger than 16 or booking for someone under 16 years of age, please contact us first and we will be happy to advise you.
