Photography often seems to sit at the intersection of skill and humility. No matter the topic, or how distant it seems from you, it’s not until you find yourself or examine your motivation to tell a story, that your photography becomes compelling to others. In this collaborative workshop co-led by Sara Lando and Tanya Habjouqa, you will be encouraged to find and develop your personal vision. By sharing work, no matter the state it is in, and leaving yourself open and vulnerable to a collaborative critique and conversation, you will nurture the process of finding your way to personal epiphanies of narration.

Photography can a be the tool to inspire new ways of seeing and experiencing life—both with our cameras and emotively. Quite often the stories we choose to tell reveal as much about ourselves as it does about our subjects. If you are not curious, obsessed, and hungry, the story will show this. Inspiration for photography is multifaceted; it can be a quote, a song lyric, a glance, a memory of your mother. This one-day workshop will facilitate discussions and employee exercises that allow you to find the personal in your photography and work. We will also share the work of master photographers, writers, and other artists for inspiration.

This workshop is designed for both expert and enthusiast photographers looking to unburden a creative block or find inspiration on how to start and develop a personal project. This class is built around the sense of urgency to create rather than technique, branding or marketing: if you are looking to find your voice this might be the perfect starting point for your quest.
