Studio on Your Shoulder

Level: Lighting - Confident Beginner

It's great to have all the lights, lenses, cameras, and modifiers at your disposal to create images.
It can also be a logistical nightmare having to transport, setup, tear down, and maintain all that gear, not to mention paying for it in the first place.

Learning to make the most of limited gear is a skill on its own. (And sometimes it comes in handy when GPP challenges you in a ShootOut to take a portrait without any of your lighting gear. Check last year’s video if you missed Zack beat out Nick Fancher and his son, Caleb, in the ShootOut with his winning portrait of Karrouhat.)

In a quest to find a minimal kit of gear to accomplish a lot, Zack Arias has put together a studio kit that can be taken just about anywhere. This workshop is designed to initiate you into the kit that allows to use minimal gear for maximum results.

Working with one camera body (a DSLR or mirrorless, the lighter, the better), a few conversion lenses, a few hot shoe flashes, and a few modifiers, walk and shoot with Zack in a variety of locations and lighting conditions. With your minimal kit, you will capitalize on your mobility to walk the streets and take studio-quality portraits while you are out and about.

This is not a street photography workshop, so the models will come with you, allowing you the opportunity to shoot as if you had an editorial assignment and pad your portfolio with photography that is fresh and dynamic.
